George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) provided engineering design and construction phase services for Tradepoint Atlantic Wastewater Pumping Stations. These have consisted of design and permitting of five (5) pumping station and force main projects for various aspects of the development at Sparrows Point.

Designs have included pre-manufactured grinder-type pumping stations (16 gpm), submersible wastewater pumping stations ranging from 50 gpm to 600 gpm, and a dry-dock pumping station with a non-sanitary flow of 300 gpm. Project tasks include force main analysis, pump selection, pumping station layout design, development of design plans and specifications, electrical service and distribution, emergency generators, MDE permitting, and construction phase services.

Each submersible pumping station has been designed in accordance with MDE design guidelines. The traditional pumping stations included stand-by pumps, remote alarm transmission, emergency generator and emergency by-pass pumping connection.

In 2020, GMB completed a DNR funded Harbor and Stormwater Infrastructure Study for the Town of St Michaels. This valuable study projected the flooding and sea level rise by 2050 and then identified at risk areas and associated mitigation strategies for our main harbor and adjacent infrastructure. This was the valuable foundation the Town Commissioners needed for their planning and developed community awareness and support. Building on this study, the Town of St Michaels created the Climate Change/ Sea Level Rise Commission to pursue grants to implement these mitigation plans. Thanks to GMB’s study, the Town has been successful in pursuing grant funding.
