In 2011, the City of Fruitland contracted with GMB to complete an Engineering Design Report (EDR) to submit to MDE for funding assistance for the proposed ENR & Solids Handling upgrade of the existing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). GMB completed the EDR by further refining treatment alternatives evaluated under the Preliminary Engineering Report (completed April 2008) and preparing detailed cost estimates. The EDR document also provided for the preliminary design of the recommended treatment alternatives. GMB also assisted with securing Bay Restoration & Green grant funding for the project by negotiating eligibility with the State of Maryland.
Following approval of the EDR by MDE, GMB proceeded with the final design of the Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) & Solids Handling Upgrade to the Fruitland WWTP. The upgrades included the conversion of the existing aerobic digesters to membrane-thickened aerobic digesters with an anoxic zone conditioning tank, construction of new denitrification filters with water quality instrumentation suite and new chemical storage and feed systems including metal salt and supplemental carbon, new post aeration system, new modulating flow control system, resurfacing of porous asphalt sludge drying beds and replacement and expansion of the process control (SCADA) system.
GMB provided Construction Management and Full-Time Inspection Services on the construction project. GMB also oversaw and documented equipment testing, system start-ups, and operation and maintenance training.
