The City of Fruitland was awarded an Energy Water Infrastructure Program (EWIP) grant through the Maryland Department of the Environment (EWIP) for the construction of a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system at the existing Fruitland Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The PV system was designed to generate a minimum of 269,000 kWh/year which is 100% of the annual energy used by the Fruitland WTP facility. The system is directly connected to the local power company’s electrical grid and net-metered to credit the Owner for solar energy produced onsite.
GMB teamed with an Electrical Design Engineering firm to complete the design and prepare plans and specifications of the system. GMB took the lead in the field layout of the panel arrays and associated site work design to provide a fully functional system. GMB assisted the City to obtain all State and Local permits required for construction, as well as evaluating the Solar PV equipment bids proposed by each Bidder. The design was completed in June 2020 and the system was operational in 2022.
