This project involved the design of two replacement boat ramps at the end of Franklin Street on the Choptank River in Cambridge, Maryland. Funding for this project was provided by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) prepared a condition survey to evaluate the condition of the existing boat ramp and bathroom facility, recommend repairs for replacement of the various components, and provided an opinion of probable costs for improvements. The project then moved into the design and preparation of construction documents.
GMB also provided construction administration services for this project, which included the following tasks:
1) Assisted in advertising the project for bids in local newspapers and provided a list of potential contractors for the project; 2) Conducted a pre-bid meeting to discuss the project with contractors and answer their questions; 3) Reviewed bids received and offered recommendations for award; 4) Processed owner-contractor agreement, contractor insurance certificate, performance and payment bonds, notice of award, notice to proceed, and change orders as required; 5) Provided engineering administration services including response to contractor questions, processing of payment requisitions and funding agency documentation; 6) Coordinated and conducted pre-construction, monthly progress, and final inspection meetings. Prepared and distributed meeting minutes and inspection punchlists; 7) Reviewed and processed Contractor submissions (shop drawings, certifications, cut sheets, etc.); 8) Prepared and furnished as-built records to the City of Cambridge; and 9) Provided final certifications to applicable funding agencies.
