The first prototype First Shore Federal Savings & Loan Association building in Salisbury was designed to replace an aging modular building that had outgrown itself in terms of space and the services it could provide its customers. Erected in the same place as its predecessor, a major design challenge was successfully met by the placement of a temporary trailer banking facility elsewhere on site while the old building was demolished and the new one was constructed. This enabled the facility to continue its daily operations with only a minor impact on its customers. The new building projects a visual image of permanence and banking safety through the use of brick and traditional design detailing.
GMB was contracted for the design of a second branch facility, based on the Salisbury prototype, in Pocomoke City in 2007. The new facility replaced an older, smaller facility on an adjacent site. The old facility remained open for the duration of the new construction.
GMB was pleased to be asked by First Shore Federal once again in 2013 to design another prototype facility in downtown Millsboro, Delaware. Save for some minor refinements required by current codes and some challenges to satisfy Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) requirements for street access, the Millsboro branch facility kept the predominant features of the prototype intact.
