GMB provided the City of Seaford with engineering design services for green infrastructure within the Right of Way for Conwell St along the Nanticoke River. Site design services are based on the Concept plan previously crafted during a public design charette hosted by Nanticoke Watershed Alliance (NWA).
The improvements include a mid-block bioretention bumpout, pervious brick sidewalk, and end-of-block bioretention area containing native plants and a special soil mix that absorbs and filters the stormwater before it makes its way back into local waterways. The goal is to improve runoff water quality, increase infiltration and groundwater recharge, and reduce peak flows which will reduce runoff volumes that produce localized flooding all while improving the drainage system that was frequently inundated during heavier rainfall events.
Grant funding was provided through the Chesapeake Bay Trust (CBT) Green Streets, Green Jobs, and Green Towns (G3) Program.
GMB staff members joined the City of Seaford and the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance for a Community Planting Day to help implement the improvements in October 2022.
