George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) provided architectural and engineering services for the design of a brand new Department of Emergency Services Building on a 76 acre parcel on Double Hills Road in Denton, MD. The new facility houses the DES Administration Offices, Planning and Risk Management and Caroline County Emergency Medical Services Paramedic 13. The building is a 4680 square foot post and frame building with a 19’ x 37’ attic mezzanine space created by an “attic type” truss system. The design of the building includes a fully functioning office for employees and an EMS living quarters with associated apparatus bays. This new building provides for efficiencies in work flow not enjoyed in the past configuration of 3 separate buildings.
In addition, the project included site sustainable and green building technologies including pervious asphalt via state grant funding and a high performing thermal envelope via sprayed insulation above and beyond the 2012 International Energy Code criteria.
GMB provided full services for this project including programming, schematic and design development, in addition to construction administration. GMB also assisted Caroline County with the grant funding application and administration of the grant funding for the site.
