GMB Wins Conceptor Award for Lewes Water Main Project

We are proud to announce that we were selected to receive a 2023 Engineering Excellence Conceptor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Delaware (ACEC-DE) for the Pilottown Road Water Main and Lead Service Replacement Project, completed in 2022.
GMB assisted the Lewes Board of Public Works (BPW) with upgrading their water distribution capacity to its westernmost limits. 5,900-feet of PVC water pipe was installed to replace aging cast iron pipe. 98 house services were replaced with PE pipe including existing lead/galvanized services. The BPW trenchlessly lined sewer mains and house services within the limits of the project. Improvements were made to the stormwater system at specific problem locations within project limits. All ADA ramps and crosswalks were made compliant and 7,000-feet of Pilottown Road was rebuilt/repaved at the end of the project. GMB assisted the BPW in reaching its project goals below budget and within schedule.
To minimize disturbance traffic on Pilottown Road, approximately 6,700-feet of existing 8”, 10” and 12” terracotta clay sanitary sewer pipe was lined via cured-in-place (CIP) lining technology. That work was completed over several days, much expedited over the expected months-long open-cut replacement method traditionally used. The CIP installation also minimized restoration requirements for Pilottown Road.
This conceptually large project allowed the Lewes BPW to increase their capacity to meet future projected water demand and sewage flows by replacing aged, potentially unsafe, and undersized infrastructure, while maintaining a safe work environment and minimizing disruption to the City’s residents, visitors, and businesses.
