Local Student “Shadows” GMB Principal
Posted On: May 26, 2011
Courtney Martin, a junior from Sussex Central High School, spent the morning of May 25th shadowing civil engineer Charles O’Donnell from the Architectural and Engineering firm of George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) in Seaford, Delaware. She also assisted Senior Designer Tony Rutherford. Ms. Martin is interested in furthering her education related to a career in architecture. Her experience at GMB is as a result of her participation in the State of Delaware Business, Industry, and Education (BIE) Alliance which is a partnership in education with local high schools presenting BIE’s School to Career Exploration Program. Students select a career that is of interest to them and business professionals from the community allow students to come into their places of employment with a specific goal of allowing each student to shadow their individual career. This educational experience offers important lessons that cannot be learned from a book. It also allows students to set a career path that will help them to achieve their goals for the future.
